Good Boy

The first time I saw him, I thought he was the skinniest living dog I’d ever seen. His Snoopy nose can pick up the slightest scent. On a walk he always wants to check all the messages and leave a reply. He’s a good boy.

But I Wanted Them

He shrugged as if this was a perfectly reasonable explanation for taking something that belonged to someone else. In his five-year-old mind it made sense. But looking at his face and his body language, he also knew it was wrong.

Life is the messy bits

Real life is the messy bits. Real life is getting your heart broken, losing the job, watching someone else get the promotion, and wondering when all those plans you made in high school started to go south.

Everything’s okay, until it’s not

You think everything’s okay, until it’s not. The whole experience has reminded me of something. The people in our lives are gifts. The relationships in our lives are gifts. Time is a gift. Here at the beginning of this new year, I’m taking nothing for granted.
